Red Carpet and Sustainability: Celebrities that support environmental causes

Supporting environmental causes is an important thing for everyone to do in order to build a better future. There are several celebrities, particularly in the fashion and film industry, that support environmental causes, and set an amazing example by doing so.

Celebrities That Support Environmental Causes in Red Carpet

Sustainable clothing lines are becoming a new fashion trend. Fashion designer Stella McCartney produces sustainable clothing lines through new technology and using recycled or sustainable fabrics. Her collection for Adidas in the spring of 2019 was made of 70 percent recycled materials. Also, in the late summer of 2019, she created a sustainable, limited-edition line of merchandise for Taylor Swift. 

Fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff, who was part of an incredible conversation via Clubhouse two weeks ago, also recently launched her eco-friendly children’s collection at New York Fashion Week. This fashion line, called Little Minkoff, uses the tech company Resonance to make sure that each item of clothing is made ethically and with sustainable materials that are healthy for the environment. 

Actress Olivia Wilde has also taken advantage of the trend of sustainable clothing in the past. As recently as 2019, she launched a limited edition recycled clothing collection in partnership with the online thrift store thredUP.

Stella McCartney, Rebecca Minkoff, and Olivia Wilde are three celebrities that support environmental causes. 

Celebrities That Support Environmental Causes: Ocean Conservation

Actress Shailene Woodley, known for her roles in the Divergent movies and The Fault In Our Stars, is also an activist. She was arrested in 2016 for protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline, and is an advocate for protecting our oceans. As recently as 2019, she partnered with American Express in an effort to clean up shorelines. She told Architectural Digest, “We come from this planet, and we go back to this planet when we’re gone. And I think it’s important to reintegrate that truth into our daily realities and our daily lifestyles.” She is also an advocate for protecting the earth against climate change. 

Actress, model, and singer Hayden Panettiere has also been an advocate of saving ocean wildlife, particularly in 2008 when she ventured into Japanese waters to prevent dolphin hunters from making kills. She also created a documentary on the subject, and has been recognized for her activism. 

Celebrities That Support Environmental Causes: Wildlife Conservation

Wildlife conservation is important for animals to retain their natural habitats, which are destroyed due to human intervention and processes such as deforestation. The World Wildlife Fund is a company which is strongly dedicated to this cause. It has been endorsed by 24 celebrities such as actor Leonardo DiCaprio. He has partnered with the World Wildlife Fund organization in the past in efforts to prevent tigers from becoming endangered. He is also involved in many other types of activism. DiCaprio is one of several celebrities that support environmental causes.

Celebrities That Support Environmental Causes: Solar Energy, Plastic Waste, And More

Solar panels are another environmentally friendly product that has been gaining recent popularity. One solar panel company, Grouphug created a Window Solar Charger. It enables users to charge their electronic devices using the rays of the sun. This product was endorsed by investor shark and owner of the Dallas Mavericks, Mark Cuban, who made a significant investment of $150,000 and owns a quarter of the company. He has also invested in other environmentally friendly products that have been pitched to him on Shark Tank, such as Loliware, a biodegradable edible cup that aims to reduce the use of plastic waste. 

Actor Mark Ruffalo, known for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also an outspoken activist regarding environmental degradation. He supports causes such as clean energy in favor of a better environment. He also has advocated for policy reform in real life and through social media.
