The metaverse doesn’t leave the space for others on the most talked-about topics. This time it’s for something brand new: The Metaverse Fashion Week.
Most people recognize the importance of fashion weeks worldwide. And to keep up with the technological innovations and the arrival of the future, the fashion industry has shown it can rule the metaverse.
The Decentraland platform announced the first Metaverse Fashion Week for March 24, with four days of fashion shows, showrooms, stores, lectures and virtual events.
Calling all designers, brands and fashionistas.

The Metaverse Fashion Week will be a virtual space where brands can test the technology of a virtual world platform. There are rumors that several luxury brands will join the event. One that is already confirmed is Hugo Boss. According to VOGUE Business:
“Hugo – part of the newly rebranded Hugo Boss –, recently signed with MVFW partner Boson Protocol to enable the people to buy physical Hugo goods within the metaverse, including Metaverse Fashion Week, making it one of the first brands to announce participation.”
Decentraland & Tokens.com
The Decentraland platform enables digital assets trading and real estate packages and games, art exhibitions and stores. It is one of the most used platforms by metaverse users and has partnered with the company Tokens.com to host Metaverse Fashion Week’s first edition.
According to Harper’s Bazaar, Tokens.com, in partnership with Decentraland, has “entered into a lease agreement with the 3D virtual world platform to host the event on its virtual property.”
The partnership is really exciting. And as said by Business Insider, “Metaverse Group, a subsidiary of Tokens.com, completed the purchase of a patch of digital land for 618,000 mana, or about $US2.43 million at the time, according to a Decentraland spokesperson and a statement by Tokens.com.”
How To Watch the MVFW?
If you want to be at the event, here are the announcements you need to read. And here there is a FAQ to stay tuned. To access Decentraland and have a complete experience, you will need a digital wallet, which works like your personal account.
In other words, here is what you need to know, from Harper’s Bazaar:
“Firstly, you’ll need an Ethereum wallet (cryptocurrency) to purchase NFT’s or comparable clothes. While most events have an open-invitation, some brands have reportedly enquired about VIP access or front row seats — meaning A-List avatar attendance could be on the cards.”
The thing is: It seems to be easy, but it can have some problems.
Accessing the platform can be too complicated, and demand far superior technology. After all, we are talking about a whole new event with the integration of the metaverse.
Will It Actually Work?
To have access to this platform and watch the Metaverse Fashion Week, you will need an immense amount of processing and a normal phone may not be able to handle the metaverse. Not everyone has such a powerful structure as to withstand such heavy processing.
And therefore, there is a possibility that people do not enjoy the experience as much as they could and the first one might not work 100% well. Digital fashion brand Republique’s Gaubert warns:
“I fear that people will go on their work laptop and not have a great experience, and then be perhaps put off. People need to persevere. This will hopefully be the first of many of these.”
Therefore, it is necessary to wait to understand how people will deal with this innovation.
Also, we have said here on the blog a few times that the Metaverse itself can be a danger to the environment. This is because supporting NFTs and all blockchain technology requires a lot of energy. So it produces astronomical amounts of greenhouse gases.

The Metaverse May Not Be For Everyone
You might have thought that one of the pros of digital space is that it can englobe diverse people with no geographic boundary. Well… That is not actually true.
Many people won’t even come close to the metaverse. You may need expensive equipment such as VR headsets, which are required for the best experience, for example.
The truth is that the metaverse will have a completely elitist atmosphere. That’s because anyone who doesn’t have the minimum conditions to have the necessary hardware to enter it will be barred from the new world.
The lack of digital accessibility is different all over the world. There are many differences when talking about social classes, and we cannot ignore that. The metaverse can indeed be exciting. However, there is a lot to think –and do – about it.
Still talking about innovation and technology, it has been proving to be at the center of fashion industry changes. Being most of these changes for the good. Even though there’s a lot still to do, new technologies have been helping to be a more traceable and transparent supply chain. Learn!
