Based in London, Biophilica was founded in 2019 by Mira Nameth, with the aim to develop a plastic-free and sustainable leather alternative. 

The first product, Treekind, is a unique leather alternative that is free of polyurethane. It is made with lignocellulosic feedstocks from urban parks and gardens and inedible agricultural feedstocks, like leaves, stems, husks and stalks. Because of its 100% natural inputs, Treekind is compostable. The result is a low-resource material that has very low carbon impact. It uses 0.1% of the water in equivalent leather processing, with zero toxic chemicals in its formulation.
