Today, we interviewed Björn Bengtsson. He’s been in this role for 10 years overseeing the development and launch of new product lines, categories, and markets. He also manages the end-to-end supply chain operations and sourcing strategies.

What originally drew you to the fashion industry?

The intangibles of fashion. The craft, creativity and skills of combining a beautiful fabric with a perfect shape. The feeling of perfection and accomplishment in having he opportunity of doing that season after season still drives my passion for the craft.

What is one shift or challenge shaping the fashion industry right now that leaders should pay attention to?

After a decade of data driven merchandising it is obvious that the industry now sorely lack creativity, newness and exploration. I believe that the next 5 years will, once again, prove that creativity, intuition and some risk taking will pay dividends.

Where do you see the most interesting opportunities for technology or AI in fashion?

The entire end-to-end process. The key will be “augmentation” rather than “automation”. That is what set apart winners from loosers.

What advice would you give to founders building fashion or fashion-tech companies today?

There are no “white spaces”. Who do you want to replace and why? What is your “raison d’être”.

Björn Bengtsson, one quote that inspire you.

“The feeling of being perfectly well-dressed offers a tranquility that no religion can bestow”
Ralph Waldo Emerson
