Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4: Diversity & Inclusion Can Perform Sexiness

read 3 min

The Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 premiered last week on Amazon’s Prime Video. Since the first edition of the enchanting and innovative experience, the show has reinforced the inclusion of pieces for all bodies, with sizes going up to XXXXL.

Perhaps it is a signature to bring out the dark atmosphere. In fact, it matches the sexy vibe that the brand proposes. In addition, the show begins by reinforcing that it is, besides a fashion show, a set of musical and dance performances.

Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 received several guests, such as Cara Delevingne, Anitta, Irina Shayk, Joan Smalls, Lara Stone, Simu Liu, Taraji P. Henson, Taylour Paige and Winston Duke. In addition, it had the controversial presence of actor Johnny Depp, which didn’t make some fans very happy…

The scene sequences almost look like a long music video, but here with precise details on the garments. To know in detail about the Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, keep reading!

Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4: Diverse Bodies Can Be Sexy

Rihanna founded Savage x Fenty embracing plurality and emphasizing everyone can be sexy. Some people affirm that they were one of the reasons that Victoria’s Secret lost its relevance, which the most recent campaign narrative shows that only the Angels are desirable and sexy. The brand still keeps them intact in being tall, skinny and cis. Meanwhile, they ensure other women can only be free and inspirational…

The critical point is that Savage X Fenty does the opposite. It took a long time for the industry to understand that sexiness isn’t just about thin bodies. Now, we expect that it is more common for a non-standard person to have this type of representation.

Since 2018, the show has featured something groundbreaking in the industry: fat, transgender and physically disabled models, although super top models still figured in the casting. As such, the Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 maintains this discourse of diversity that goes way more than just hiring diverse models, it is about putting them as protagonists.

The show does this without putting them in a place of isolation. Here, all non-standard models are reference and priority, just like all other body types.

The Pieces

The new collection is designed to feature “unexpected detailing” and “create a boundary-bending” experience, per a press release.  On the Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4, there are many matching bra and underwear combos, like the strappy mesh demi bra and these cheeky mesh panties.

The latest Savage x Fenty collection also includes athleticwear, like sports bras and leggings. The sexiest styles include these pin-up leggings and corresponding pin-up sports bras, which “both feature fishnet overlays combined with a typical polyester and elastane workout material” says InStyle review.

Pricing

In an interview for The Cut, Designer Adam Selman shared his thoughts about the pieces and pricing. He said: “That’s probably my biggest challenge, to be honest — to do this at an affordable price range. I always say that you have to question things that are made for under $100. Where does it come from? What are they doing? (..). I don’t think that anything is above $89. It’s challenging but exciting — it should be accessible to everyone.

There’s Always a Controversy…

In recent months, all the media attention has led to the courtroom of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. However, this did not stop the actor from gaining a prominent place on the show, which became controversial…

Depp emerged with black eyeliner, loose hair, a mustache, and wearing a dark patterned shirt open to partially reveal his bejeweled chest under a brown coat. As OutKast’s “So Fresh, So Clean” played in the background, he walked through a forest before hugging a tree.

But none of that mattered much to some fans.

Since news of his appearance started, critics have questioned Rihanna, who is the show’s executive producer and creative director about the actor’s participation in the event. Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 was Depp’s second on-screen appearance since the end of the trial, in which Heard was found responsible for defaming him.

To Sum Up…

Savage X Fenty Show Vol. 4 environment proved to be a place for fantasy. In this edition, animation was added to the mixing between the real and the “not real.” It is almost like analyzing and enjoying the living elements and their connection with the 2D, making it all unique.

Rihanna — who recently returned to the music industry — showed that she managed to change and dominate much of the fashion industry by having diversity and inclusion as her main speech. In addition, she reinforced that all bodies can be sexy, different from the angels who carried with them the need for thinness.

But beyond that, Savage X Fent Show Vol. 4 is essential not only for fashion but also as an audiovisual production. After all, the broadcast of the 3rd volume of the parade won the Emmy for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming.
