SynZenBe Textile Industry

The challenge of achieving a zero waste fashion industry seemed insurmountable just years ago. Yet with recent brand commitments such as Zara’s to 100% sustainable fashion by 2025, the industry is about to turn on a dime. Nearly every major trade show this year shifted their focus to sustainability, often a predictor of trends in the consumer market twelve to eighteen months down the road.

Yet, the concept of “sustainability” remains fuzzy and while commitments are increasing, identifying technologies that can support the production of sustainable garments at a price point consumers will tolerate remains difficult. Achieving sustainable garments within a broad portion of the consumer market will require both a focus on the input costs that affect a brand’s P&Land also the development of healthier balance sheets.

HOW THE ENTIRE FASHION SUPPLY CHAIN WILL SHIFT TO 100% SUSTAINABILITY WITHIN 5-7 YEARS, LEAVING TRADITIONAL DESIGN IN ITS WAKE.

SynZenBe works to eliminate the over consumption of materials as well as gives brands the ability to access to a range of sustainably made textiles worldwide. The platform works in partnership with their suppliers to understand their whole supply chain and material capabilities. Signing up as a buyer is free for industry professionals and every buyer must be verified before being able to access any collections.

This is a platform where buyers are able to discover new materials direct from suppliers and communicate through a sophisticated order management system. This means that the entire order process can be done online – all in real time. SynZenBe works with suppliers to digitize their collections, buyers are then able to discover materials and directly order swatches online, place sample orders and request in stock and made to order materials.

The key to sustainability is their sourcing method which is understanding transparency for materials. Brands, buyers and designers are requesting full transparency with their products so not only knowing who made the garment but transparency into what the garment is made of. Brands are responsible for their story and consumers are looking at connecting with products on a deeper basis and understanding exactly what they are buying into and who they are supporting through their spending habits.

THE KEY FOR THIS IS THAT YOU DON’T NEED TO OVER PURCHASE MATERIALS AS OVER 40% ENDS UP IN A LANDFILL.

Textile Exchange, a non-profit organization, produces an annual report on preferred materials that brands should buy given their sustainability profile. Topping their list are “Preferred Cotton” (4.65% of total fiber supply), Manmade Cellulosics (Viscose, Acetate, Lyocell, Modal, Cupro – 6.3% of total supply, other plant based fibers such as Flax, Jute, Denim, and responsibly harvested animal products (Wool, Down, Silk).

Through SynZenBe brands are able to access these fibers as well as the latest technologies, developments and innovations. Through the sites comprehensive material and supplier details brands are able to understand what certifications, verifications and properties each textile has. In 2017 ~60% of the 100 metric tons of fibers used in textile production was derived from petroleum products (Polyester, Nylon, and other Synthetics). Looking to more natural fibers is the key to building a longer lasting finished product.

SYNZENBE IS THE FIRST DISCOVERY AND TRANSACTIONAL SUSTAINABLE TEXTILES SOURCING PLATFORM.

There are a lot of great emerging sustainable textiles and novel fibers beyond the well known Hemp, Jute and Linen remains a tiny portion of the sourcing market today. Yet, designers and brands are turning towards these fibers given their press appeal and their potential over the coming decade as the industry shifts away from petroleum based products. Some innovative examples include Seaweed Fiber, Pineapple Fiber, Apple Leather, Orange Silk and Leaf Leather.
